You Are More Than Your Curriculum

Every curriculum is written with the same impossible task: to fit every student, every teacher, every school, in every circumstance. Often by people who haven’t stood in front of a class in years.
And yes — it’s a valuable guide. It tells us what knowledge and skills children should develop across the year. But a guide is not the same as a map. And it is certainly not your classroom.
You are the one who sees the children each day. You know how they think, what they fear, what sparks their curiosity, and what shuts them down. You understand when they need challenge, when they need clarity, and when they simply need a moment to breathe.
This is why you matter more than the curriculum.
A curriculum can offer direction, but only a teacher can bring learning to life. Only you can shape an experience that works for the real students sitting in front of you — not the imagined ones behind the document.
So trust your professional judgment. Follow your internal compass. Teach in the way your students will actually learn. Take the curriculum as the foundation, not the ceiling.
Teach the children — not the textbook.
